 HOW TO GET STARTED

There are several ways to get started in music lessons at the Laguna Niguel School of Music:

  1. Schedule an Introductory Music Lesson (for group lessons and most individual private lessons).

  2. Schedule an Ensemble Audition (for ensembles including band, choir, orchestra, strings, rock band, and musical theater).

  3. Direct Enrollment (for some individual private lessons, including adults, and early childhood classes such as Music and Piano Mommy & Me for ages 0-2).

INTRODUCTORY MUSIC LESSON

Introductory music lessons are an ideal way to get started. Why?

a) At your introductory music lesson, Dr. Dennis or another experienced music teacher will provide you with hands-on, useful instruction at the piano or music instrument of your choice and/or singing. Beginning students will learn a song plus some fundamentals. More advanced students will receive helpful learning and coaching on new music and/or repertoire the student is already familiar with.

b) We will discuss your goals, needs, interests, and help you choose pacing and other options.

c) We will plan out your availability and help you choose the best possible time slots for your schedule.

d) All of this information will help us enroll you in the best possible lessons with the best teacher just for you!

Who must schedule an introductory lesson?

All music students interested in group lessons, all music students seeking group or private individual instruction under the age of seven (7), all music students who seek a “trial lesson” before enrolling and committing to a full quarter term.

Who does not need to schedule an introductory lesson?

Music students seeking individual private lessons, age seven (7) and above, who are ready to enroll and commit to the full quarter term. Music students interested in participating in an ensemble (schedule an ensemble audition instead).
Music students, ages 0-2, interested in Music or Piano Mommy & Me.

Everyone else must schedule an introductory music lesson!

ENSEMBLE AUDITION

Most music students wishing to participate in band, concert band, choir, orchestra, strings, rock band, and musical theater must schedule an ensemble audition. Most ensemble auditions are held on Saturdays throughout the year. Students already enrolled in music lessons do not need to perform an audition. Please discuss with your teacher and have your teacher contact the office.

DIRECT ENROLLMENT

Some music students can skip the introductory lesson and the ensemble audition and enroll directly. These students must be age seven (7) and above for individual private instruction (no group lessons), or, must be age 0-2 for Music or Piano Mommy & Me classes, and must be able and willing to provide full availability for scheduling purposes, must complete the enrollment process, and must be willing to commit to the full quarter term.

Enrollment can be completed online, in-person at the studio, or partly online, over the phone, and in person. The full enrollment process must be completed in its entirely before schedules can be finalized and confirmed and lessons started.
